Auckland War Memorial Museum - Tamaki Paenga Hira
Brilliant news - I have just been granted permission by the Auckland Museum to post some photos that I took at the Museum last week. So check back and I'll add some over the next few days...
The photos were taken at the Encounter Exhibit - please check out http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/
and our thanks goes to the museum for granting this forum permission to post the photos here for educational purposes.

Re: Auckland War Memorial Museum - Tamaki Paenga Hira
Please excuse my very amateur photography - with glass and reflecting lights its very difficult to get good photos... I might attempt it again in the future but for those of you who can't make it to the Encounter Exhibit at the Auckland Museum hopefully it will give you some idea of what a wonderful exhibit it is.

Re: Auckland War Memorial Museum - Tamaki Paenga Hira
I have taken photos of things at the Ak Museum for an assignment I did one time, one way to avoid the flash on the glass is to hold the camera lens up to the glass, hard to do when things are out of reach but it does work....you always get a few security walking by giving you the evil eye, but if you can ignore them it almost feels legal.

Thanks Tim - thats a great tip... I need to go back and get the information to accompany the photos...so might give that a go next time I'm visiting.

I love that permanent exhibit. Yummy yummy. Any excuse to take the kids to the museum....... fond memories of the Titian and Frank Carpay exhibits...sigh

great to see these! I was there at the beginning of the year. Your heart rate sure goes up when you see them all grouped together like that in one room!

If you go to the Auckland Museum also check the random display cases that are off various landings as you go up the stairs to level 1 etc. at the front of the museum.
There's random NZ pieces (new aquisitions?) including a gorgeous pair of Wharetana "moko mokai" bookends - as mentioned in another thread here.

I thought it was put together really well (wish I was in the water its so humid here ...)
