Two craft pots looking for potters' identity

Hi
I have two pots for which I have long wanted to know more about. The first has an impressed mark of a capital sanserif S in a circle. Going by the mark book, it looks like Olga Spence but I didn't know she did stuff like this. Bought years ago in a junk shop in Murchison.
It's 24cms tall. It's one of my favourites and really well done, both pottered and decorated.

Second Pot

Slab formed vase 29cms tall, decorated with what appears to be a Moa rising from the flames.
Could be a phoenix. Has an hand-inscribed mark of a large 'P' connecting down to a large 'S' .
Inside the lower curve of the 'S' is '9.83' (presumably 1983. Underneath everything is 'NZ'.

Thought it could be Peter Shearer. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the help. The mark is not like the examples you put on. It is quite a shallow mark so hard to photograph well. Here goes:
