Under-appreciated craft potters Empty Under-appreciated craft potters

Post  Titian Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:32 am

Tim, was wondering if you had any thoughts on who might be among the most under-appreciated craft-potters from the earlier years.

By 'under-appreciated' I mean with a low profile but having had a relatively high quality output.

Would Simon Engelhard be a candidate?

Well I think Simon Engelhard might be in that category, Adrian Cotter too. Both of these potters were feature New Vision potters in their calendars. Richard Cadness would be another. The thing though about all these potters is they stopped making pots.....and so possibly never reached their potential. All sorts of ideas run through my head when I think about this......its hard to put into words.

Under-appreciated craft potters Empty Re: Under-appreciated craft potters

I'm by no means an expert on pottery however I picked up a pot today and Tims words about appreciating the pot rather than the potters mark (complete misquote sorry) came to mind - I have a handful of pieces that are well made - they just "feel" good and everytime I touch them they feel under appreciated...they just feel "right" and then I look up the potters mark and some of them seem very unappreciated - quality (to my inexperienced eye versus notoriety)...
