Crown Lynn Handpotted
This is number 34
If you come across this one let me know...it had a rather distinctive chip to the base ..and it was also stolen out of a cabinet in my shop in Dominion Road - Akld...about 3 years ago!
Lastly though - we don't currently have many examples of handpotted on our Crown Lynn shape guide..would be great if people had some from their own collections to contribute ...pretty please....

Re: Crown Lynn Handpotted
Some phonetic spelling coming in here - try Ernest Shufflebotham.
Yes, the hand potted pieces do have style numbers. These are hand inscribed on the base where they occur but many, like this one, do not have them. Unfortunately I can't tell you the number for this one - maybe someone else has an example with a number on it.
Interestingly, it has the "wrong" stamp on the base. The shufflebotham ones usually have the "Hand Potted" stamp while the "Hand Crafted" stamp was used on the pieces that artists like Steenstra decorated.
Anyway - very nice vase indeed !

Re: Crown Lynn Handpotted
wow... cool find webgrl!
Nope we don't have too many handpotted examples on the guide yet.,..but will glad add them as they surface.
Anyone with any photos and numbers... please contact me and I'll upload them to the shape guide.
The backstamp is really interesting ...makes me wonder if Ernest Shufflebotham taught anyone else while he was here? as the handcrafted base mark is often attributed to Steenstra but also I'm told other peoples work too.

Crown Lynn Vase
Hey all, thanks for your input, it is a lovely piece. Would you happen to have any odea of its value? My man had this in his garage and was going to throw it out and I have told him it is very collectable and he doesn't believe me! Any idea apreciated.

It definitely looks like a Shufflebotham to me and it depends on how common or uncommon the shape is... as to value... there are a couple of collectors of CL handpotted on this site ...so hopefully they can confirm estimated value... I see them normally around the $250 - $600 range though if in good condition So your man needs to not throw it away...

It's most definitely a Shufflebotham vase. Here's one the same that sold recently on Trademe (which has the usual "handpotted" stamp). So something in the order of $250 seems about right - a bit more if the condition is better than this one.

Re: Crown Lynn Handpotted
Question: Does anyone know how the handpotted range numbering worked? Was it included in the 1-881 range or a separate range of numbers?

Great work Sirod, thanks so much!
Yes they look great. Thank you for the excellent photos. I know how long it can take to arrange and get them right. The numbering you have incorporated is a very handy innovation to. Good thinking. Can't wait to see the whole series.
