Sorting it all out
Sorting it all out.
Ever bought a pot from someone who couldn’t remember who made it? Bet we all have….as collectors it’s probably a good idea to bypass this oversight and figure out some sort of system instead of relying on memory. I am relying on my memory to know who made many of my pots, plus I have access to a good bunch of marks….but that’s not really good enough for the future. Some sort of easy to implement system is needed and I don’t like the idea of getting the twink pen out and putting codes on everything….taking photos of everything…what a drag….stickers always seem to come off….I have tried paper with PVA which seems to work well, but who knows for how long….no use having something that just falls off in 10 years from now….So from the archivist point of view what is a good method to record what you have?

Re: Sorting it all out
Hi Tim
I always photograph a piece 4-5 pics and always put who made it in the description along with other details, i archive them by years of design/manufacture, i have this backed up on several CD/DVDs aswell as 2 USB sticks... it is an ongoing process though as i still find WGP companies i have never heard of before (i found one yesterday)...Kev
