www.pottersmarks.co.nz
Just being curious, I looked up my old website and found that someone has registered the domain name, but is not using it to host a site....curious...I wonder why anyone would go to that cost or trouble as there are many other variants on that name that would be just as good or even better.....comments?

Re: www.pottersmarks.co.nz
depends who bought it...often if a site has traffic already... I guess another person might buy the site for possible traffic...
Re: www.pottersmarks.co.nz
Hi - just resurfaced and caught up with all one hundred and something posts since I last was online. Very interesting. Happy New Year to all !
Tim - I asked Alan about your question and Jo is right - the person who bought your domain name has hundreds of them ( Google David Rohani - he lives in Henderson) and probably earns money from them. Because your site was so popular, lots of people visit it, then when they click on any links on the page (sponsored links) the owner is paid a small amount (they are called click -throughs). The domain name is possibly available to buy but it would cost more than the standard price as it has value (thanks to you!!)

Re: www.pottersmarks.co.nz
you know I was thinking...if you wanted to hinder the guys progress ...you could google pottersmarks.co.nz and make a list of the links mentioned... example zinestar and ask for the link to be removed ...googlebots in theory wont pick them up the next time they roam...
only problem is if you did want to buy the site back off the guy or it expires ...all your hard work will have to be redone ...

Re: www.pottersmarks.co.nz
I think if anyone ever wanted to do another marks site they would be better off using a .com domain. But I doubt that will happen any time soon. I don't think there is any world wide resource of marks......just imagine how popular that would be!! With a little bit of help from people around the world, ie members on this site...a massive resource could easily be created. English marks have been done, European ones could be done, NZ ones done, just leaves Japanese, American, and Australian......
