Pacific series bowls Empty Pacific series bowls

Post  TimCaulton Fri Jan 23, 2009 11:03 pm

I have a couple of pacific series bowls on TM, reserved at the higher end of the scale. I have always been curious about the great prices they get at Webbs and A+O, and yet you can buy one new at an exhibition for a fraction of those auction prices. Anyone got any ideas why this might be. Here is an example. Several years ago you could buy one for $150 then the price went op to $180 then $250ish....but at Webbs one went for 600+ some years ago and A+O $700 just last year.......is it because most people around the country just don't have access to these and so need to pay the higher prices?

Hi Tim. Maybe the auction market relates to what people think is scarcity value. Did Len complete this series 5 or 6 years ago and none more made since ?

At auctions there are maybe some bidders who might not be aware of Trademe and/or do not watch Trademe constantly, and decide on the night that they "must have". If there are 2 such bidders at the auction, then voilĂ  ....

And a lot of collectibles went up considerably in past 2 - 3 years, Cheers

I put it down to supply and demand....
more people want Lens Pacifica bowls every day.
The reserves are always on the high side on trademe...
and are usually achieved.... if only I could join in on the bidding Neutral

I watched your auction finish Tim
and couldn't believe it when nobody bid to win Shocked
As I thought the reserve was reasonable.....
If only I had that much to spare at the moment.... but alack - alas
Maybe we are in a recession after all ??

Well I have given someone a 3 day chance to grab them, otherwise I might try them at a "real auction" Strange that no one asked to see the mark Shocked

I think perhaps a large number of collectors would trust your opinion Tim Wink

however yeah ..I was surprised they didnt sell seeing as the bid went to within 15% ...perhaps its because its a week before school starts?...
