Bellamy's Restaurant parliament plates
I have a couple of these plates as photographed on Val monks book page 121.
I have never seen any others in all the time I have been chasing after CL. Are they rare or is it that I just don't live in Wellington that I haven't seen ant around....
Cheers
Carol

Re: Bellamy's Restaurant parliament plates
I don't think they are very common ...I've never come across one
I wonder if others have?

Bellamys Crown Lynn pattern
I came across an article by chance in a magazine called "Designscape" Number 89: March 1977 which was published by the New Zealand Industrial Design Council
It said in the article that Bellamys purchased 660 dozen pieces of crockery.
Here are 2 paragraphs from the magazine ....
" Crown Lynn Potteries Ltd, of Auckland, supplied a complete set of dinnerware, designed by Mark Cleverley to a brief finally drawn up by Geoffrey Hargreaves, but arrived at by a lengthly procedure. The first attempt at briefing Crown Lynn took place well before furnishings and colour schemes were finally decided, and, not surprisingly, the result - a conventional white glaze with a native leaf motif- was rejected by the new House Committee which had taken over with the change of government in 1975.
By this time the Ministry of Works design team had selected brown and russet tones as the predominant furnishing colours, and a more thorough approach to crockery choice was instigated. Not only did Mark Cleverley come down from Auckland to inspect the Beehive environment, but members of the House Comittee, including the chairman, visited Crown Lynn Potteries to select a suitable glaze and advise on the pattern in person. 'Rusticana', a standard brown earternware glaze, adaptable to vitreous glazing, was chosen. The shape is from the existing Crown Lynn vitrified hotelware range. The pattern specified was to have a Maori flavour, and of the three stylised motifs proffered by Mark Cleverley, the simple fishhook design was chosen. A smaller, grey version of the motif appears on the service plates - large platters used only at banquet functions"
There is also a note on a photo which says "this motif on the coffee set intended for sale to MP's for souvenirs and personal gifts.
