Re: The Great Crown Lynn Ginger Jar Debate
well it's an enigma to me... I'm in two minds about discussing it too much before auction close...I in no way want to "scuttle" someones auction...
but I really have no clue about Crown Lynn ginger jars and would love to know more about this ...
while we're at it... "Frank Carpay" mustard sets....the consensus seems to be that they definitely arent by him...but still they are actively promoted as his... some people don't even think they are CL....
please solve these mysteries for us.....

its appearing from UNANSWERED q's
that its Japanese got to feel sorry for the winner of it . I wonder if the seller knows that the un answered Q's can be seen after the auction closes lol

Re: The Great Crown Lynn Ginger Jar Debate
now the auction is over ...that really irks me when a trader purposely covers up information that might shed some light on the reality or not...I personally think its highly unlikely to be Crown Lynn...and even more so now
What can you do??
This whole saga lead me on a bit of a hunt as I personally have a policy, if I don't know I won't guess, I ask around. I read all the questions after the auction including the ones not answered and all I can say is I feel sorry for the buyer. That trader knows whats really going on, what that trader doesn't know is that Karma has hairy armpits lol

Ginger jars
(Merged topic by admin)
Recently there has been a lot of discussion on trademe about whether Crown Lynn made a particular style of ginger jar. The ginger jar in question has Chinese symbols on the bottom and the word "China" however some people said they had the same ginger jar with Crown Lynn backstamps. I was wondering if anyone who had that could post an image on this site to show that Crown Lynn did actually make them. Some Crown Lynn experts said they were definitely not Crown Lynn, so wanted to try and clarify the situation. Any discussion would be greatly appreciated.

Ginger jars
The debates on trademe have been hilarious. My understanding is that Tom Clark told somebody that CL made them. I had the marks on the base translated and "Kienhua" is Cantonese for China and the two symbols basically mean "Made in" so all it says is "Made in China." But the two dots either side are very Crown Lynn-like. I would like 'crownlynn' or other experts opinion on this... There are a lot of the ginger jars around so they definitely can't be described as 'rare.'

Re: The Great Crown Lynn Ginger Jar Debate
yeah they have been pretty hilarious...
we did briefly discuss it on one of our chat nights a few sunday's ago... I think it would be fair to say the shared view was that they aren't Crown Lynn...

Re: The Great Crown Lynn Ginger Jar Debate
I once went to a talk given by John Perry and he was talking about some sort of CL ginger jar.....said he found the moulds for it there or something

the mystery continues...
I wonder if someone knows John Perry and could ask him for definite about these moulds and what they looked like?

John was at Cordys last night, I often see him at the auctions, but don't know him. Only been to his shop once before, years ago

Re: The Great Crown Lynn Ginger Jar Debate
When Tom Clark was questioned about putting "Made in China" on the ginger jars he said that it meant made out of china as well as the more obvious manufactured in China. I know that many shards of the Kienhua ginger jars were found at a Crown Lynn site and that there are examples of the jars that also have Crown Lynn backstamps on them.
Although there are traders claiming items are Crown Lynn that aren't or describing them as "Crown Lynn?" the ginger jar has long been known to be a Crown Lynn product.
The "no, it isn't" view isn't supported by any evidence.
