Re: At the markets today
Those are really lovely
My first thought is that they are made by Greg Baron -
as I have some mugs by him with a similar design on them......
are they stamped?

Re: At the markets today
Heck they are so japanese they could be Hamada's....
all of our greats copied him lolz
*weeps for the Barron busted plate*
He has to be very high on my top 100 potters list ....
maybe in the top 10 come to think of it......
his work makes me weak at the knees .....
orgasmic comes to mind.... *looks for a smilie face to fit*...

Re: At the markets today
So while I was walking home I thought.......why spend thousands of dollars on a small pot when you can get good stuff for just a few dollars........its quite crazy.

Nice if it was hamada..
[b]but he had two distinct cyphers for work that was sold out of japan.Just a little bit newer than
that.I have quite a few pieces of his work, and it has a more earthy rustic look to it...not as 'polished'
as these beakers look...

Thats pretty much what I was thinking, they are too neat and tidy. Still it's the first time Ive seen anything like them out and about..just couldnt resist.

Re: At the markets today
Yeah thats surposed to be Frank Finan.....an Auckland potter/glass artist. His mark is in the new marks book. You can find info on him in Peter Cape's book on NZ craft artists

three tea cups (yunomi)
Hello Tim,TimCaulton wrote:So I went out today and found these stoneware cups. Any Ideas??
what I see on picture are three Japanese tea cups (yunomi) executed in tradition of Mingei. Those cups are have been influenced by work of great Japanese potters such as Hamada and his follower Shimaoka. I think someone already mentioned Hamada's name.
Yunomi you've got are available at selective stores in Mashiko,Japan. It is current product but those cups are beautiful.
It just tells you how advanced Japanese productions are.Sometimes it's hard to draw the line between mass production and individual pieces. They are so good!
