Te Rona pottery.... question?
I really thought this ware was made from the marbling of two different coloured clays.....
Looking at Tonykoni's picture of one of their mugs.... I'm not so sure now...
perhaps they dipped the ware into a marbled slip? Does anyone know?

Re: Te Rona pottery.... question?
I think the glaze is marbled rather than the clay...looking at my few pieces ...but you'd probably know in one second if you came and looked at them...lol
I have had examples of both
Most of what I have had has been mixed with the slip.
But I had a beaker a couple of years ago that was mixed right through the clay, which had a bisk finish.

Te Rona
As I understand it, these were made from local clays mixed together.
I collect te Rona jasperware - this is mostly in brown/beige - but I do have a lovely presentation piece in a soft greyish-blue and white and a deep blue (not anything like the Wedgwood colours). These were made by Thomas Lovatt and some by his brother - I met the brother over 20 years ago. Wished I'd bought more pieces then but of course there were the $$$ to consider.

Could you take a photo to show us please? You can send it through to my email collectiques@woosh.co.nz if you'd like me to upload it for you.
