Olive Jones middle name?
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows Olive Jones middle name. I just bought something off T/M thinking it was Olive Jones (as that is what it says), and that it would be nice to have something of hers in my small collection, but I really don't know her work and if she did things like this, and now I'm wondering if maybe it's a different Olive Jones. Any assistance appreciated. Regards, Suz.

Re: Olive Jones middle name?
Hiya Suz - welcome to the forum
I have no idea what Olive Jone's middle name was - sorry. I've sold a few of her pieces and only ever come across "Olive Jones" her full signature.
I just had a quick read in "40 legends of NZ design - Douglas Lloyd Jenkins" and he says that she either signed "Olive Jones" or "O Jones"
When you receive the vase, if you haven't already - post a photograph so we can see what the mark looks like - would love to check it out
Cheers
Jo

Re: Olive Jones middle name?
Hi, hmmm, well I am seriously thinking there's another Olive Jones out there now - I guess I'm the perfect Trade Me bidder, there was one very stubborn person bidding against me oopsy daisy.
Here's the auction number, I'm not sure if I can put a T/Me pic on here? Auction 165113544 - if it was Olive Jones it would have been a good buy for the $15 I started bidding at!

From what I've read Olive Jones was in London in the 1930's and back in Auckland in 1934...so it probably doesn't fit well unfortunately.
It was in the New Zealand section though not the english section - so perhaps a little misleading in my opinion.
Do some google & ebay searching Suz and see what you can come up with in the UK?
Re: Olive Jones middle name?
On the other hands I cant see any reason why Olive Jones couldn't have painted that English plate......all you gotta do is refire it right at a low temp......TONES of English stuff here. Just look at all the commercial tiles potters decorated in NZ as an example.....could be a rare treasure....find out that middle name suz!

Re: Olive Jones middle name?
Hi guys, sorry been busy, yep, that was the same plate. The seller kindly let me back out on the grounds that I thought it was the other Olive Jones (and their staff had it listed as NZ pottery) so yay for that! First trade me sale I've ever backed out of!
