Olive Jones
I used to spend a lot of time with Olive approx 1970-72. She lived in Seacliff Rd Onehunga, with her sister. At the time I lived not far away. I would spend hours at her pottery watching her and chatting away, she would explain what she was doing and try to teach me. Some days she would set me up on her wheel and show me how to throw pots, I remember going back there one day after I had made some pots and she had glazed and fired them for me. I still have them, they are glazed with an olive green glaze and I am sure she had tidied them up a bit after I had left. She was a real sweetie and quite elderly when I knew her. I loved going there after she had fired the kiln and seeing what new creations she had made. I had no idea she was so renowned untill joining this site and seeing her pottery again. Though it was uncommon in those days for a little old lady to be making a living from pottery.

Re: Some super gorgeous Olive Jones examples...
Thanks so much Jill - what a great insight into Olive Jones and her pottery ...
Re: Some super gorgeous Olive Jones examples...
Lovely to read that Jill
Olive Jones was one of NZ's pioneer female studio potters and is famous for this in NZ pottery history -
along with a few others - like Briar Garderner, Elizabeth Lissaman and Florence Mary Goodsell aka Molle.
Olive's pieces are very collectable and fetch very good prices.
You should do a search on TM and check for yourself.

...There are instructions for the photos under the Collectors Cafe forum ...look for the "help" section ...there is a run down of the process it sounds complicated but basically the photos are store offsite on www.servimg.com so if you create an account there then you can just copy and paste the link here and you'll see the photos...any problems send me a pm or email....Jo
