Normally marked his work with "Handwerk" a dutchman - he is probably one of Crown Lynn's most sought after

Frank Carpay Empty Frank Carpay Fletchers square pin tray

Post  sirod Wed Feb 04, 2009 9:14 pm

In the shape guide you have a photo of the Fletchers Pin tray, Black and Yellow, in my opinion this is a Frank Carpay painted piece. Jeff (Crown Lynn) should be able to verify this for us.

If you look at the black hand painting around the 'Fletcher' pin tray you can see it is by the same hand that painted around the edge of pin tray 2 and 3. Pintray four is an extra version, all by Frank Carpay. The last three are similar colours. Yellow is not a usual colour for Frank Carpay but if you look at the yellow in the 'Fish in a Bird Cage' plate you will see it is the same.

Frank Carpay Empty Fruit Bowls

Post  sirod Sat Feb 07, 2009 4:37 pm

The two bowls, one with an Apple in the centre and the other with a Pear, were the large bowl in a fruit set which consisted on one large bowl and 6 smaller ones. Usually, only the large bowl was marked with the Handwerk cypher.

Frank Carpay Empty partly Carpay

Post  funho1 Sun Feb 08, 2009 1:01 pm

The piece on the right was (I think correctly) described by the auctioneers as "Steenstra" but the beauty on the left was attributed to "Shufflebottom" ! I have been told that the shape was developed by Carpay, but that it was not sold commercially. So maybe an experimental one-off. It does not have 'handwerk' but does have the "Hand Potted" backstamp. Cheers Peter

Frank Carpay Empty Vases from Funho

Post  sirod Sun Feb 08, 2009 2:43 pm

The one on the right is definately Streenstra. The one on the left is not a shape I have seen before. If it was a Carpay design it would have an 'H' preceeding the shape number on the base.
