Ngakura ware
Ngakura Ware - Luke Adams manufactured Ngakura Ware when they were owned by Crown Lynn - late 50's early 60's period - admin
I am very attracted to this range..... just like the wharetane ware -
because it is so distinctively new zealand and unlike anything else in the world I guess ??
Why is it so expensive? Anyone know?

ev - I'll move it over to ID My Pottery until we work out where it should go ...k
If any one knows whether the range is in fact Crown Lynn or Luke Adams or perhaps something else - jump on in to this thread and have your say....
If any one has photos to illustrate the range on the thread ...that would be great too ...Cheers Jo

Re: Ngakura ware
Fantastic and thanks sirod
That explains it perfectly.
Did the ware have any markings that you know of?

Ngakura Souvenir Ware
On the boxes that the trinket boxes came in in states

On the bottom of the box is printed-
Lovely Art pottery souvenir pieces depicting Maori carvings and motifs, made from New Zealand clays
and finished in a greenstone glaze.
The range includes matching bowls, ashtrays, cigarette boxes, and delightful little pin-stud-

Re: Ngakura ware
We also discussed Ngakura ware during Sunday night chat ...apparently Crown Lynn owned Luke Adams Pottery in 1956 and they kept it going until the early 60's. Ngakura ware was one of the last lines made there ...also kiddie bricks.
Thanks for your valued opinion Jeff

Ngakura ware
This is a rectangular dish (approx. 145 x 120 x 35mm) and its box . My photos don't do them justice. The dish is very dark green/black with a square face in the middle and raised surface decoration all over the inside like kowhaiwhai.
No backstamp but with the note sirod described on the bottom of the box.

Re: Ngakura ware
I picked up a piece of Ngakura today that I won on TM.
The glaze is a dark greenstone colour that breaks into blues where it has pooled.
The glaze has a wonderful 'fat' smooth feel and the Maori design is superb!
I will post a pic when I get a chance
