Re: Crown Lynn Shape Guide
oh you're so right ...was rushing to get stuff organised ..I didnt take a good look at the guide... Thanks shazzy
More shapes ...
I've just updated about 50 more shapes.
I was recently given a set of notes by Ernie Cooper from his cadetship at Crown Lynn in 1964. I'll explain more about the notes at a later date as that deserves an entire topic on its own and is an extremely generous gift - Thanks Ernie
These notes also contained some shape information - so I've just uploaded them.
Also just to let you know, since I added the Auckland Museum shapes to the guide I've had a number of people send in colour photographs to replace the old photos ...its been a fantastic response. Thanks very much - keep it up guys - we're now well over half way toward achieving the goal!

yes it is ...Flair Art Pottery was a Crown Lynn backstamp thought to be from the 60's according to Valerie Ringer Monk's book

It doesn't seem to have a corresponding 3 digit number ...and first made about 1973 - I'll save it to our files anyway though for the future - Thanks spot20

Re: Crown Lynn Shape Guide
Great spotting Titian ...I was looking at a similar shaped one on auction and I think you might be right
Re: Crown Lynn Shape Guide
ahhh ...just found the last shape...it looks like Titian's - Crown Lynn No 86 shape
anyone have another crown lynn 124-8 shape please?
we'd like to compare with the one we have on the shape guide currently...
The line drawing from the Auckland Museum notes shows this shape
Now apparently the shape is textured front and back so difficult to decipher the hand incised numbers ... so we're wondering if anyone else has an example of this shape perhaps its possible that someone put the wrong number to the base?... there could be any number of reasons but if we could find another 124-8 shape to compare with ...we might solve the puzzle ...
Thanks in advance for any help

Wentworth Ware Hand applied numbers
The numbering on these Wentworth Ware native flora shapes as mentioned previously is non-standard because it employs a reference to the diameter of the plate in the final number following a slash: ie the number will look like this - 123/8 - indicating that this plate with design number 123 is around 8 inches wide. 123 will therefore also be found on smaller plates followed by 'slash 6' and 'slash 4'.
However, this is not the only interesting feature of the numbering. In form, the numbers are much smaller than other CL numbers and it seems, were applied, or 'stamped', into the still wet plates after casting, rather than being integrated into the actual mould, as is tha case with other CL shapes. The numbers look to be die-cut blocks, and as a result of different degrees of pressure in applying them, will either be beautifully clear, very faint, or in some cases non-existant.
It is possible that occasionally the wrong number block was applied to a shape, so this may also account for some inconsistencies. I will try to post a pic of a clear example of this type of hand applied numbering on a Wentworth shape.

Wentworth Ware Hand applied numbers
Pics of the strange Wentworth numbers:
In the first pic you can see the clear impression of the number stamp used to hand-number these bits.
In the second pic you can see (just) that this plate has been double numbered in error with what looks like two different stamps. The second number is around the rim. Others that I have of the same design and size have no numbers at all. Sorry I couldn't get a better image.

2 inch and 7/8ths vases
I'm pretty sure I've got them right. The sketches in the guide seem to be rough approximations in some cases, but these vases can't be anything else.

Re: Crown Lynn Shape Guide
Hiya Hazedaze ...It looks very similar to the 616 "fish scale flower pot" - is it around 5" tall?
and no we don't have it ... we have an Auckland museum line drawing ...so a photo is wonderful - thanks Hazedaze
ps the top edge is slightly different from the modelers notes but I've found that has happened before - slight variations
